Talia Pérez Gilbert: ¿Quién tocó la puerta de la nave del astronauta?

(ES) En 2003, el primer astronauta chino en el espacio, Yang Liwei, escuchó un ruido que asemejaba "un martillo de madera contra un cubo de hiero" mientras estaba en su nave (BBC Mundo, 2016). El astronauta no logró descifrar cuál fue la fuente de este sonido. A partir de esta anécdota, Talía Pérez Gilbert construye una ficción especulativa sobre posibles seres que habitan el espacio y que pudieron ser quienes tocaron la nave del astronauta humano.
La artista se preguntó: ¿qué formas saldrían si meto la mano en cinco vórtices inter-dimensionales en mi mente y lo que considero paranormal? A manera de respuesta, Pérez Gilbert nos muestra una serie de impresiones tridimensionales con terminado de pintura que brilla en la oscuridad de seres que emanan ese dichos vórtices. Las luces de la galería se encendían y apagaban en diferentes momentos de la exhibición para permitir visualizar ambos estados de la instalación.
(EN) In 2003, Yang Liwei, the first Chinese astronaut in space, heard a noise resembling "a wooden hammer against an iron bucket" while inside his spacecraft (BBC Mundo, 2016). The astronaut was unable to identify the source of the sound. Based on this anecdote, Talía Pérez Gilbert constructs a speculative fiction about possible beings inhabiting space who might have been the ones who knocked on the human astronaut's spacecraft.
The artist asked herself: what forms would emerge if I put my hand into five interdimensional vortices in my mind and what I consider paranormal? As an answer, Pérez Gilbert presents a series of three-dimensional prints with a glow-in-the-dark paint finish, depicting beings emanating from these vortices. The gallery lights flickered on and off at different points during the exhibition to allow viewers to see both states of the installation.
